Choose a car seat around your child's height and weight, the vehicle it will be installed in, and the way your family travels. At baby enRoute, compare infant car seats, convertible car seats and booster seats before comparing convenience features.

Start with the right stage and fit

• Infant seats: consider whether a removable carrier suits your routine, then check the seat's limits and approved base or stroller connections.
• Convertible and all-in-one seats: compare the permitted modes and limits for each stage. A multi-stage label does not mean every mode is appropriate for your child now.
• Boosters: check your child's readiness, the manufacturer's requirements and the vehicle belt fit; do not move up a stage simply because a birthday has passed.

Seat-only listings, travel-system bundles, bases and other accessories are different purchases. Check what is included and match any separate component to the exact seat model.

Before choosing between seats

Check the Canadian National Safety Mark, your provincial requirements, and both the car-seat and vehicle manuals. Compare permitted seating positions, installation method and the space needed at the required recline. A published width alone cannot confirm a three-across installation.

Should I choose the heavier car seat?

Use seat weight to judge lifting and transfers between vehicles, not as a comparative crash-protection rating. Prioritize a seat that fits your child and vehicle and that you can install and use correctly.

Do I need a second base for another vehicle?

For a removable infant seat, an additional compatible base may simplify regular transfers. First check whether the exact seat permits installation without a base and whether that method suits the second vehicle. A base is not a separate car seat.
